Advertising Waste Recycling Program

In 2021, the government introduced the “Waste Blueprint of Hong Kong 2035," aiming for waste reduction, resource circulation, and zero waste to landfills. This initiative encourages reducing waste at the source, promoting recycling, and transforming waste into useful resources to minimize landfill reliance.

Introduction

The Sign Association of Hong Kong plays a pivotal role in environmental protection by offering advertising waste recycling services. This initiative targets waste generated during advertising production, ensuring proper handling and conversion into reusable resources. The recycling process begins with advertising companies submitting a waste list, followed by a professional assessment and classification of the waste on-site. This classification is essential for the efficiency and effectiveness of the recycling effort.

Once evaluated, the association organizes safe transportation of the sorted waste to designated processing centers. Here, further sorting occurs, with recyclable materials being converted into new products while unrecyclable waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Upon completing the recycling process, the association issues carbon emissions reduction and landfill diversion certificates to participating companies, reflecting their contributions to environmental sustainability. These certificates, generated using blockchain technology, enhance transparency and traceability. They include QR codes that link to certificate data and blockchain encryption, allowing easy access and verification of the information.

Participation is exclusive to Sign Association members, who receive dedicated accounts to track their recycling efforts and emissions reductions. This system supports companies in their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, reinforcing their commitment to social responsibility. Members can securely access their records, ensuring privacy while benefiting from the enhanced reliability of the carbon emissions data.
